-BIOGRAPHY-
Marty Peters has been deeply involved in the pursuit of self expression through his instrument since beginning saxophone lessons at age 11. Growing up in the New Haven area, Marty was fortunate enough to study under great local musicians including saxophonists Bob Kolb, Eddie Alex, Chris Herbert and Tim Moran. Marty attended the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven, where he performed with their premier Jazz ensemble led by bassist Jeff Fuller throughout high school. There, he was awarded first place in the Danko-Todd Jazz Scholarship Competition in 2006, which allowed him to attended the Eastman Jazz Camp that summer. He attended the Educational Center for the Arts in New Haven, at which he studied further in music theory, jazz arranging, and performance. Marty has had the opportunity to work in larger ensembles, playing second tenor in the Connecticut Regionals Jazz Band, and performing on a weekly basis with the big band "Tuxedo Junction".
In the fall of 2007, Marty pursued studies at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Performance on the saxophone. It was here that he deeply committed himself to studying jazz theory and his instrument, while being able to study with greats Jimmy Greene, Ralph Lalama, and Eric Alexander. He also took classes with Jon Faddis, Todd Coolman, John Riley, Steve Wilson, Charles Blenzig, Doug Weiss, Pete Malinverni and Jim Rotondi, among others. While at Purchase, Marty was awarded the Joe Williams Everyday Foundation Scholarship. During his time at Purchase, Marty began performing in the New York City area, playing with many different groups in various genres.
Having finished his degree, Marty currently resides in the New Haven, CT area, looking to further his musical explorations in the fields of performance, instruction, and commercial recording.
